UNWTO: Tourism recovery accelerates to reach 65% of pre-pandemic levels
International tourism is on track to reach 65% of pre-pandemic levels by the end of 2022 as the sector continues to bounce back from the pandemic. An estimated 700 million tourists travelled internationally between January and September, more than double (+133%) the number recorded for the same period in 2021. This equates to 63% of 2019 levels and puts the sector on course to reach 65% of its pre-pandemic levels this year, in line with UNWTO scenarios. Results were boosted by strong pent-up demand, improved confidence levels and the lifting of restrictions in an increasing number of destinations.

The new routes from Istanbul to Paris, Lyon, Nice and Toulouse will be effective from November 30, 2022, and the route from Istanbul to Salzburg, Austria will be effective from December 1, 2022.

Rwanda holds tourism week to drive tourism and intra-Africa travel
Running from November 26 to December 3, the week-long event currently is carrying a banner and a theme of “Adopting Innovative Approaches to Boost Intra-Africa Travel as a drive for Tourism Business Recovery.” Taking place at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village (KCEV) and Kigali Convention Centre (KCC) in Rwandan capital, the Rwanda Tourism Week in part one of the strategies to boost the recovery of tourism then enable Rwanda tourist stakeholders to showcase their products and foster partnerships that would create more business opportunities.

As per the latest news reports, the Environment Ministry has already given a nod to the idea, and has also allowed removal of sand bars by the local communities through a non-mechanised manual method. The Ministry has also decided against drilling for oil and natural gas in coastal regulation zones (CRZ), which was introduced under its 2021 proposal, without prior approval.
