Challenge is to maintain, improve India's aviation safety ranking: DGCA chief
With the country getting its highest-ever rank in the ICAO aviation safety rankings, DGCA chief Arun Kumar on Sunday said the challenge now is to maintain and further improve the air safety ecosystem. In the latest rankings by the Indian Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), India's position has jumped to the 48th place from 102nd spot in 2018. The ranking, which also places it ahead of China (49), is the highest ever received by India, according to DGCA officials

Construction of India's first vertical lift sea bridge to be completed soon
This state-of-the-art bridge will be the country's first vertical lift railway sea bridge and is expected to be completed by March 2023. "The reconstruction work on the new 2.05 km Pamban railway bridge which will connect Rameswaram island to the mainland in Tamil Nadu has gathered pace. Till Date, 84 per cent of the construction work has been completed," the ministry said in a statement.

Thailand receives over 9mln foreign tourist arrivals in Jan-Nov
Thailand recorded about 9.4 million foreign tourist arrivals from January to November and should see at least 10 million visitors for the full year, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said on Friday. The country is currently seeing about 50,000 to 60,000 foreign tourists per day during the high season, TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn told Reuters. So far this year, Malaysia has been Thailand's biggest source market, with 1.5 million arrivals, he added.

MBB Airport to get foreign exchange counter
The Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport here, the second busiest airport in the Northeast will soon have a foreign exchange counter to provide currency exchange facility to passengers, a top airport official said on Friday. Around 30 per cent of passengers from Bangladesh use the MBB Airport to fly to many cities of India like Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai for various purposes. The average footfall at the airport everyday is 4,200, the official said.

Rajasthan Govt. sets a limit on booking online safari tickets in Ranthambore National Park
As per the latest development, the forest administration in Ranthambore National Park (RNP) has now set a limit for tourists and travel agents to book safari tickets in advance through Single Sign-On (SSO). As per the new limit, one will be able to book a safari in advance six times using the SSO ID.

IATA: Global Domestic Air Demand 'Slipped' in October
Global air passenger traffic in October continued its resurgence, but while international traffic gained ground, domestic demand "slipped" slightly compared with October 2021 levels, according to the International Air Transport Association. Total October traffic, as measured in revenue passenger kilometers, increased 44.6 percent year over year. Compared with October 2019, traffic is now at 74.2 percent recovered, up from September's 73.8 percent level.

Spain Tourism Soars in October, Approaches Pre-Pandemic Levels
The number of foreign tourists visiting Spain in October soared 39% from the same month last year to 7.18 million, but remained a tad below the 7.59 million tourists who came in October 2019, official statistics showed on Friday. Foreign tourists spent 8.30 billion euros ($8.73 billion) in Spain in October, up from 5.61 billion euros in the same month last year and almost as much as the 8.32 billion euros in October 2019, data from the statistics institute INE showed.

DigiYatra: These airports in India now have facial recognition technology. How does it work?
Starting Thursday, the government has introduced paperless entry at select airports to make air travel hassle-free. Under this initiative, airports will use a facial recognition software called ‘DigiYatra’ for entry. This means, passengers won’t need to carry their ID card and boarding pass.

Three days after illegal deck beds and beach tents were confiscated at Morjim, the tourism department cracked the whip at Calangute. Authorities raided shacks on the Calangute beach and seized 145 cane chairs, 68 tables and 32 sofas. Tourism minister Rohan Khaunte has vowed to crack down on such illegalities with an iron hand.

NHAI floats tender for Vijayawada-Bengaluru expressway, travel in 6 hrs
Frequent travellers between India's silicon valley Bengaluru and Andhra Pradesh's Vijayawada are in for good news. Work is all set to begin on the Vijayawada-Bengaluru expressway for which the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids.
